8 Home Design Trends to Look for in 2016

It’s a new year, which means new home design trends are on the horizon. Here are 8 trends to keep a look out for in 2016.

1. Formal dining rooms. If you don’t entertain a lot, then a separate area designated for doing so probably won’t be a priority for you. But for those who do entertain frequently, a decked-out room meant for special gatherings is non-negotiable.
2. Tech-free living rooms. Most days, our lives are consumed with all things digital, but more and more homeowners want a space that gives them a break from it. A space where they can decompress quietly or simply spend time with family and friends sans digital distractions. A sitting room or living room, free of technical devices can do just that.
3. Outdoor fabric used for indoor furnishings. The rise of making the outdoor living area a part of the house as a whole has created a surge of fabrics that are both durable and eye-catching. So much in fact, that it’s becoming harder to distinguish between them and indoor-only fabrics. Homeowners are starting to see just how great these outdoor fabrics can be inside the home especially in high-traffic rooms. 5. Colored stainless steel appliances.  If you aren’t too keen on the shiny silver appliances, you’re in luck. Two manufacturers are giving you a couple of new options: LG’s has released a Black Stainless collection and Whirlpool’s Sunset Bronze.
6. Heated entryway floors. A heated entryway floor in the south doesn’t make much sense, but for those who live in the north, this is a great way to dry off those wet, snowy boots a bit faster.
7. Attention-getting bedrooms. You can transform the look of a bedroom pretty easily, but to have a bedroom that truly wows, you’ve got to go bolder. Something like a brick or rustic wood wall behind the bed will grab your attention more so than four walls painted the same.
8. Homier bathrooms. Walk into a bathroom and you know it’s a bathroom. This year however, you might find yourself walking into a space that resembles a living room more than it does a bathroom. Chandeliers, statement furniture like custom chairs, and graphic wallpaper are just some of the ways homeowners will be updating their bathroom.
