Home Fabrics do not have to be expensive!
Fresh Fabrics:
Cutting Corners, dba Interior Fabrics does not carry the very old, antique or unusual fabric. We buy what’s fashionable today! If it doesn’t sell well, we mark it down and move it out quick! We don’t claim to have everything for everyone’s taste in home décor. You probably won’t find a “one of a kind”, unusual, or out-of date color. But if you are looking for what’s hot today and you don’t want to pay a fortune for it, buy your fabric here because we’ve got it, and it’s at the best price around!
A Misconception
There’s a terrible misconception in the home decorative fabric industry today. Many vendors, retail stores, decorators or catalogs, will have you believe that the more money you spend on fabric, the better quality you will receive. In most cases, this is simply not true.
The most common reason a fabric is expensive is because of greedy mark-ups and middlemen mark-ups.
Here’s why they become expensive:
If you start out with a fabric that’s cost from the mill is $5 A jobber will buy it and put it in a sample book for $9-15 Then, the design store or decorator will in turn charge you $28-35 I promise you that $35 has in no way increased the quality or value of the $5 fabric!
If you believe that the price is increased because it’s part of an “Exclusive Designer Series”, you should know that the industry standard on royalties to the artist or designer is only $0.20 – $2.00 a yard.
Take Dupioni silk for example. Our Dupioni is 100% hand woven silk from India. We also offer a finer, machine loom silk from China. Both types sell for $12.99 a yard. Our national competitor sells it at $24. I’ve seen it as high as $105.00 a yard in Designer sample books!
Large corporate owned chain stores would attach big mark- ups because they need big profits to pay for their big overheads and stockholders returns. Designers make their fee by charging these mark-ups. You may enjoy paying unnecessarily high prices for your fabric, but don’t believe that the quality is going to be any better than a fabric at less than half the price! Most drapery and upholstery fabrics will wear longer than you want them to!
Cutting Corners / Interior Fabrics is a fabric mill outlet.
We buy direct from the mills, avoiding any middlemen and excess mark ups. We are family owned so we can control our profits. We keep prices low because we enjoy selling quantity at a low price, rather than less quantity at a high price. Since we do not have big profits to support a big overhead, we must keep our business costs low.
:: We believe that our employees are really nice people, but they are not high priced designers, nor are they on commission. They are happy to cut you a swatch, give you their opinion and carry the bolt to your car, but you’ll need to do your own decorating.
:: We think our stores are nice, but we obviously don’t spend a lot of money on our store design. We believe that you’d rather spend your money on fabric for your home, rather than fancy fixtures for our merchandise display!
Quality and Wearability
Just because a fabric is expensive, doesn’t mean it is of greater quality than a less expensive piece. Of course some fabrics are heavier and will wear better than others, however this is not always reflected by the price. If you have experience in clothes shopping, and are somewhat aware of fabric construction, to test the quality of a fabric, simply touch it! You, yes you, can feel the quality with your own hand. You wouldn’t upholster a chair with a sheer no matter how expensive it is! When selecting a fabric for your home, all you need is your eyes and your hand!
“Worn out” Home Fashion
I often hear customers say, “I wish that fabric on my sofa would wear out so I could recover it!” So what? So it still looks like new. (New 15 years ago that is.) Maybe the fabric has not worn out, but it’s obvious that the Fashion has!
It’s time to Change it! Update and Recover it!!
Do you wear your clothes until they wear out or fall apart? Your home’s fashion is just as important as your clothing. I believe even more so because you wear it everyday!
Your home is an expression of your personality and your style. You spend a good part of your life here sharing it with your family and friends. If you want to keep it fresh and inviting, you don’t have to spend a fortune, you just have to shop right. Shop at Cutting Corners, dba Interior Fabrics for fashionable fabrics at the lowest prices, and Enjoy Your Home Everyday!!
