Sneak Peek: 5 Decorating Trends on the Horizon for 2021

In a few months, we’ll be moving into a new year— one which will hopefully be better than the one we’re in now. Even though this year didn’t quite pan out the way most of us expected, there is something to look forward to. Fresh decor trends.

Remember, trends are just that. Trends. There is no rule that states they have to be used in your home or that you even have like them for that matter. Far from it, actually. But it still doesn’t hurt to take a peek at what 2021 has in store when it comes to home design and decorating. While there are several new trends on the horizon, we’ve narrowed it down to 5 of our favorites.

1. Blues

Blue is a color you can always count on. After all, Classic Blue was chosen as Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2020. And is it really any surprise? Blue is classic, charming, versatile. In the upcoming year, think deep, moody blues that offer an air of sophistication, rather than soft shades. As great as blue is, however, it’s important to remember that a little bit goes a long way. It doesn’t take much to make a statement when it’s used in the right way. Considering that neutrals are still very much in style, it’s easy to incorporate pops of blue when the mood strikes.

2. Maximalism

While it’s had a good run, it looks as though minimalism isn’t in the lead anymore. This year, it’s all about maximalism, which offers a wider range of decorating possibilities, including being able to combine various styles. With this new trend, you’ll have the freedom to use more interesting decorative objects to truly reflect your personality in your home.

3. Curved Shapes

Curved elements are going to be a welcome change after years of sleek lines. When it comes to furnishings, think soft, downy chairs, curved coffee tables, sphere-shaped lighting, and circular mirrors. With architecture, arches. Whichever you choose, just know that softer lines will most definitely promote a more comfortable lifestyle.

4. Darker and Two-Toned Kitchens

Since what seems like forever, light colors have been at the center of the kitchen. But, over the last few years, there’s been a shift toward embracing two-toned kitchens. While that trend will certainly continue, with it will come darker colors in general. No longer will those darker colors be restricted to just half of the cabinetry— get ready to see them incorporated just about everywhere.

5. Canopy Beds

If you’ve ever dreamed of having a canopy bed, now is the time to turn that dream into a reality! At one time, canopy beds were draped in heavy fabrics and/or had chunky headboards— but that’s not the case anymore. There are so many more modern versions available made from various materials including metal and acrylic. They can even be found with stylish upholstered frames.
