2014 Home Design & Decor Trends

2014 Home Design &Amp; Decor Trends

A new year is rapidly approaching, which means it’s time to start thinking about what all the rage will be when it comes to home design and decor. From style choices and layouts to fabrics and colors, here’s a look into five trends people are buzzing about.

Trend #1: Neutral base

For the most part, it’s safe to say that trends come and go quickly. It’s rare when something sticks around for the long haul, which is what many homeowners are starting to realize. This is why many will be getting back to the basics of keeping the decor base neutral. One fixed look makes it difficult to incorporate changes on a whim, which is why neutral (as a foundation) is becoming more appealing. Whether it’s keeping up with the seasons, or even embracing a new trend, a neutral base in the home makes for a versatile space that can change much more easily throughout the year by using big-impact accents, rather than performing a complete design overhaul.

Trend #2: Minimalism

The minimalist trend from last year seems to be gaining momentum, making it an even more popular concept for 2014. Think open, airy, relaxed and de-cluttered. Spaces like this are what many homeowners are learning towards. At the end of the day, less is more. The spin? Last year was modern where this year the focus is on traditional style.

Trend #3: Layering

With so many choices out there, it can be quite a challenge to settle on just one look for your home. This is what makes the trend of layering so great. Layering can apply to just about anything in design, including mixtures of woods, fabrics and metals. Embrace it all for a spectacular look in both materials and textures.

Trend #4: Patterns

Patterns are back by popular demand. While any graphic pattern will look great, this year’s top contenders are houndstooth and chintz florals. Separate or combined, geometrics and florals are a beautiful addition to any space. Use them on items such as seat cushions, bedding, accent pillows and window treatments to make a stylish statement in your home this year. You can browse our patterned fabrics here.

Trend #5: Gold and Silver

Pantone’s Radiant Orchid isn’t the only hot color this year. In 2014, keep your eye on gold and silver as well. While both are beautiful stand-alone colors, this year is all about combining the two. Think a painted piece of furniture such as an armoire, accented with gold hardware. This is just one of the many ways you can incorporate these two colors into your home.
