Decorate For Spring

Decorate for Spring with Floral Fabrics

If there’s one thing that embodies spring, it’s flowers.

Not only are flowers beautiful and versatile, they create positive and happy feelings. In addition to that, flowers are always in style, making them ideal when it comes to decorating your home for spring–or any other season for that matter.

If you’re looking for an easy way to make your home reflective of the season, consider doing so by adding some floral frivolity to the space. Here are 3 big ways you can use florals in your home:

Floral Fabrics

Floral-patterned fabrics are a wonderful way to bring the essence of spring inside your home. If you find a floral fabric that you love, and want to keep it year round, consider doing something a bit more permanent such as upholstering a chair or seat cushions. The great thing about today’s florals is that there is so much variety (which makes going bigger a lot less scary). Several patterns are suitable choices no matter what the season, or your design style, making it much easier to make a long-term commitment.

Something less permanent, but just as eye-catching, is to bring florals in with accents. Focusing on accents is a great way to add a pop of spring to your home without it taking too much time or money. Window treatments, custom pillows, throws, ottomans, area rugs, bedding, lampshades, tablecloths or runners, and even bath or kitchen towels are perfect ways to get the floral burst you want in a smaller, yet still effective, way.

And don’t think you have to always put your florals against solid backgrounds. As long as the colors compliment what you already have, a floral pattern will mix easily with whatever patterns you already have. Florals look especially great with patterns such as stripes and gingham. Think about how big of a floral burst you want and then go from there. Even small touches of floral fabric throughout the space can make a big statement.

Wall Flowers

A fun way to add floral elements to a space is by adding them to the wall. One way to do it is by painting some on the wall either by freehand or by stencil. This would be especially fun for a young girl’s bedroom.

For something a bit more sophisticated, go for wallpaper. Floral wallpaper might seem intimidating, but considering how much it has evolved over the years, there’s no reason to shy away from it. That doesn’t mean you have to hang floral wallpaper in the main areas of your home. Quite the opposite, in fact. Consider floral wallpaper on one wall in your kitchen or give your guests a surprise with floral walls in the guest powder room. Have a romantic style bedroom? Bring the flowers to the walls of your bedroom. There’s really no room that can’t benefit from florals, so it really just comes down to where you want them.

If the idea of flowers on the wall sounds intriguing, but you’re a renter rather than a homeowner, consider putting floral fabric on the wall. Let’s face it, this is also the perfect solution for commitment-phobes, too. Fabric can look just as lovely as wallpaper–but without the permanence and mess that comes with applying and removing it. And, unlike wallpaper, you can take it with you the next time you move! Just by doing a quick internet search, you can find several tutorials online that can show you how to create a beautiful feature wall with fabric.

Another way to get your flower fix is to simply hang art prints or paintings that have floral themes. Or, back to fabric again, you can create fabric wall art. Simply create and hang one panel or do a fun series of your favorites. Again, there are plenty of online tutorials to get you started on fabric wall art.

Fresh Blooms

Fresh flowers in vases are by far one of the best ways to bring spring into your home. Fragrant blooms resting on a table or mantle are very appealing–but it doesn’t have to stop there. Be sure to focus on the outside of the home as well by adding some curb appeal. Not only does landscaping significantly affect your property value for the better, it’s extra special when the fresh cut flowers in your home are courtesy of your own flower garden.

However you choose to incorporate flowers into your home is up to you. Whether you go big or go small, adding touches of floral decor to your space is never a bad idea. Enjoying the beauty that they bring will help enhance the season while it’s here.
