10 Fabulous Fall Decorating Ideas

Fall is in the air, which means it’s time to start thinking about added splashes of it throughout your home. From inside to out, we have 10 fabulous fall decorating ideas that are sure to make your home feel cozy for the season. First, we’ll take a look at 1 through 5, so stay tuned for part 2, which will cover 6 though 10.

1)    Front door display. It doesn’t really matter if you have a porch or a smaller entry with steps, the front of your home shouldn’t be ignored. If you aren’t sure where to start, stick with a simple display of pumpkins and gourds. Line the steps or arrange them artfully on whatever space you have near your door. To further enhance the display, incorporate some potted mums. Mums are meant for fall. Once those buds open, they do very well in sun or shade, guaranteeing you something beautiful to look at through the season. If you have more space, pair the mums with other greenery, such as other flowers or potted kale that will withstand this time of year. And don’t forget the door itself. Grace your entry with a beautiful garland, harvest wreath, or both.

2)    Decorative pumpkins. Save the jack-o-lanterns for October and focus on other ways you can deck out a pumpkin. A fun project you can tackle is pumpkin etching. Some things you could etch into your pumpkins are your house number, family name, a fall greeting, a scripture, or a favorite design. Create a display using traditional and heirloom pumpkins and top it off with your lovely etched masterpiece.

Paint is another great way to dress up a pumpkin. Keep it orange and paint it with gold polka dots or checks. You could even go for something bigger like a striped pumpkin. To make one, coat it entirely in black paint and then using the lines of the pumpkin as your guide, add gold stripes. Make them as thick or as thin as you’d like.

3)    Top off your table. The dining room table is a wonderfully versatile thing. One day, it can be a place for a simplistic and casual gathering, and a formal setting of sheer elegance the next. Whichever you prefer, make full use of this readily available design space. Create a natural tablescape with a rustic centerpiece of wood, candles and flowers, plain white dishes and fanciful fall themed (or colored) napkins. For a more glamorous feel, serve your meal on glass and gold dinnerware. For simple everyday wear, pick out some fall fabric and get crafty by making your own placemats or runner.

4)    Pumpkin flower vases and candleholders. Something very simple, yet amazingly cute are flower vases and candleholders made out of pumpkins. Simply hollow out some pumpkins of various sizes and fill with your favorite fall blooms. Baby pumpkins work best for holding small pillar candles.

5)    Maximize your mantle. If you have a fireplace, don’t let that mantle stay bare. The mantle, just like the dining room table, is an optimum place for seasonal decorations. For the mantle think mirrors, garlands, candles, vases full of fall foliage, or a decorative cornucopia full of pumpkins and gourds, or a combination of your favorites.
